According to Aaron Wilson, a beat reporter for the Houston Texans, Washington is hiring the Texans’ “Character Coach/Director of Team Development,” Dylan Thompson as their next Director of Player Development.
This is the role vacated by Malcom Blacken earlier in the year.

CJ Stroud highly praises Thompson: “I think I grew tremendously man…Dylan is one of the best human beings that I’ve ever met in my life”. pic.twitter.com/lgCbN9zdcm

Thompson began his NFL career as an undrafted QB for the 49ers in 2015, spending time briefly with the Rams in 2016 and 2017.
Thompson spent 2018 through 2020 with the Lions, as their “Character Coach” before being hired by the Texans.
With several high profile legal run-ins among players in recent years (e.g., Jamin Davis, Deshazor Everett), the team could certainly improve in that area, and it’s expected that Thompson will be integrally involved in keeping players out of the public eye – off the field.
Jordan on Texans Development Director Dylan Thompson: “He’s … like the overseer of our rookie class … even aside Dylan just doing his job, he’s moreso like a figure for us, we really look up to Dylan … his job is huge, and it’s definitely helped me keep a positive mindset.” pic.twitter.com/hIOeN4NzVY

C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson both sing loud praises for Texans Director of Team Development Dylan Thompson.
They say he played a huge role in their growth off the field. In particular, their faith and growing as men. They say he’s always down for ANY deep conversation.— Will Kunkel (@WillKunkelFOX) January 22, 2024
