There was optimism surrounding the Washington Football Team heading into Week 12’s Monday night game against the Seahawks. The offense, which looked terrific in back-to-back wins over the Buccaneers and Panthers, was set to get two key starters back in tight end, Logan Thomas and wide receiver Curtis Samuel.
Thomas returned, catching three passes against Seattle, and had a touchdown that NFL officials took away via review. In Week 13 against the Raiders, Thomas was back and impactful. He had a brilliant touchdown reception on Washington’s first drive and also made a clutch catch-and-run on the WFT’s second touchdown drive.
Then, suddenly, his season was over.
In the second half, Raiders’ defensive end Yannick Ngakoue went low on Thomas, immediately sending the tight end to the ground, writhing in pain.
After the game, reports out of Washington were that Thomas tore his ACL and MCL and, of course, was lost for the season.
However, in head coach Ron Rivera’s Monday press briefing, he reported what appeared as good news on Thomas, saying “the damage wasn’t as extensive” as the team initially believed.
Still, this late into the season, the damage was enough that it would keep Thomas out for the remainder of 2021 and placed him on season-ending injured reserve.
Unfortunately, on Tuesday, Washington’s initial fears were confirmed: Thomas has a torn ACL, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Further testing revealed that WFT TE Logan Thomas does in fact have a torn ACL as the team initially feared, per source. Thomas is expected to undergo surgery this week and return in time for the 2022 season.

While Thomas was already out for the season, this now means he faces a grueling rehab process to get back in time for 2022.
This is the latest brutal injury news for Washington.
