The Washington Commanders entered the 2022 NFL draft, desperately needing help at wide receiver. At No. 11 overall, Washington saw its top target, Drake London, go No. 8 overall, followed by Garrett Wilson at No. 10 overall.
However, two of the presumed top four wide receivers were still on the board in Chris Olave and Jameson Williams. Instead of selecting Olave — who the Commanders liked — they moved down five spots and added third- and fourth-round draft choices.
At 16th overall, Washington selected Penn State wideout Jahan Dotson. And according to those close to the team, Washington viewed Dotson as one of the top four wide receivers in a deep class and believed he’d be available at No. 16.
Now, Dotson is expected to be an immediate contributor for the Commanders this fall.
The biggest knock on Dotson was his size. He is built similarly to both Olave and Wilson. Dotson is an explosive and versatile receiver, who can also return punts.
