Player Overview
Ashburn, Virginia native Tai Felton is a steady improver. Coming from Stone Bridge High School as a three-star recruit, he spent his entire collegiate career at University of Maryland-College Park. His role and playing time grew each season until he became the primary pass-catcher in his senior season where he totaled career highs in multiple statistical categories (96 receptions, 1124 receiving yards, nine TDs).
Tai Felton worked primarily out of the slot position where he also projects to spend his time in the pros. He takes advantage of the extra space to get open in short and immediate routes. He also has the long speed to stretch the field and his 6’1” frame gives passers a good downfield target. Felton is limited by his lack of physicality whether battling defenders or as a blocker. Tai projects to be a role-specific wide receiver. After a good Combine, Felton could rise to a late Day 2 selection. Felton’s ability to add functional strength without losing speed will determine how impactful he could be at the professional level.
Awards:

#Maryland WR Tai Felton. 6’2 185.
Twitchy, polished route runner. Strong hands at the catch point. Above average YAC ability. Immediate contributor imo.

Interviews
Tai Felton, WR Maryland on his most underrated ability: his hands. He “got addicted” to working out on some machines that helped him improve his ball skills. #NFLCombine @AtoZSportsNFL pic.twitter.com/VWbm26hUsq

Spoke to Maryland WR Tai Felton after practice today. I had a chance to ask him about his favorite moment at the #SeniorBowl, what he hopes to bring to the next level, who he wants to model his game after, and more! Was a great interview, so make sure to check it out! pic.twitter.com/JrKjJnzjLo

How Will He Fit On The Team
With the addition of Deebo Samuel, Washington will have three signed wide receivers. While Deebo adds a versatile physical receiver, the Commanders can use a wide receiver prospect with upside who can threaten as a playmaker. Tai Felton can come in as rotational depth and occasional playmaker. He adds a young player in the wide receiver room who can take advantage of the attention focused on Deebo and Terry McLaurin with his combination of burst, separation, and making defenders miss after the catch. His path to becoming an every down receiver will depend on if he can add functional strength and improve his run blocking.
