What if the Commanders had traded for Deshaun Watson?

June 11, 2022 by Redskins Wire

So, a few months ago, you wanted the Commanders to trade for Deshaun Watson?

Many Washington fans took to Twitter earlier in the offseason expressing their desire and delight at the prospects of the Commanders trading for the Houston Texans quarterback.

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam III determined he would enter the race for the former Clemson Tiger national champion quarterback. Haslam and the Browns desired to seize their opportunity to grab a young quarterback who could lead them to their first-ever Super Bowl.

The thought of such led the Browns to trade for Watson. In exchange the Browns relinquished 1st and 4th round choices in the 2022 draft, 1st and 3rd round choices in the 2023 draft and 1st and 4th round choices in the 2024 draft. The Browns were ecstatic, the city of Cleveland was electric.

Meanwhile, Washington fans had very mixed reactions to the Commanders unloading a 3rd round choice in 2022, a 2nd round choice in 2023, moving down in the second round in 2022 with the Colts and picking up all of Carson Wentz’ salary in his coming to Washington to be a Commander.

Wentz is working hard, impressing his new teammates with his team work, big arm, desire to team unity, and visible efforts to continue to learn his craft.

The Browns have been a disaster in their drafting of quarterbacks the last two decades. Now they went out and obtained a superstar in Watson. But now one has to wonder if Watson will even see the field this season for the Browns.

The Deshaun Watson drama recently has picked up again. Watson has become the focus of new allegations. The more we learn of Watson, the worse it looks for him.  Evidence was brought to light recently that Watson had been seeing or seen at least 66 women for massages over 17 months. There has now also been a 24th lawsuit against Watson.

On the other hand, Wentz is being praised by new teammates and coaches. All at OTAs speak of his working hard, impressing his new teammates with his team work, big arm and visible efforts to continue to learn his craft.

Commanders fans are even talking playoffs in 2022. One can only imagine what it would be like in the DMV presently, if the Washington Commanders quarterback was Deshaun Watson.
