What will fix the Commanders offense?

What will it take to get the Washington Commanders offense back on track before its too late

Early in the season, the Commanders’ most significant questions concerned the defense and what it would take to fix that unit. As the defense has regressed to the mean, the offensive production has plummeted over the last four games compared to its early, historic start to the season. What would it take to fix the Commanders’ offense?

Head coach Dan Quinn said some time ago that he believes hard times are a part of the journey and that adversity will eventually hit his team. Unfortunately, adversity has hit his team, and it has put his team in a chokehold. While Jayden Daniels looked good from a health standpoint against the Dallas Cowboys, the overall offense has been a shell of itself over the last month. The Commanders are struggling to execute plays with a combination of players failing to win their individual matchups, controlling the line of scrimmage, and Jayden Daniels struggling to process the field well enough.

For most of the season, the interior offensive line was considered a strength of that unit. Then, teams began attacking it through pressure schemes that allowed athletic or powerful defensive linemen to become isolated on Nick Allegretti, Tyler Biadasz, and Sam Cosmi. In turn, the trickle effect is an ineffective run game, increased interior pressure on Daniels, and a quarterback whose internal clock has sped up.

In this Trap or Dive Podcast, Dre and I explore why the Commanders’ offense is failing right now and what it will take to fix the offense with just five games remaining on the season and an immediate matchup against a dominant Tennessee Titans defense.
