When the Commanders were on the clock in round 3 of NFL draft

May 6, 2022 by Redskins Wire

Here are some quotes from host Julie Donaldson and analyst Logan Paulsen while Washington was on the clock during last Friday’s third round of the 2022 NFL draft in Las Vegas.

Julie recapped the first two picks and suddenly she was notified Washington had already made its third-round selection.

Donaldson: “Alright, the pick is in. They go back to offense. And it is Brian Davis?”

Paulsen: “Oh, Brian Robinson, Jr. Alabama! One of my favorites!”

“I love him. I think he is a perfect complimentary piece to what this backfield has already. He is a big man, 225 pounds, 6-foot-2, runs with a tremendously physical style. He runs violently, gets downhill, makes the first man miss, always falling forward.”

“And then probably most importantly, he is outstanding in pass protection. The guy knows how to protect the quarterback. Just having a piece like that, that can come in and spell McKissic and Gibson. A guy with a big body, physical runner that compliments those two runners. I think this is a perfect pick. Love this selection, fits a need here really nicely.”

Donaldson: “And also Jaret Patterson in that room as well, they will go in with Randy Jordan and Jennifer King as well. Not a single running back was taken in the first round. And Washington now adding more weapons on offense.”

Donaldson strangely then asked Paulsen, “How do you see, how does he complement what we already have going on in that room?” Paulsen had actually just explained it quite well, but apparently, someone was talking in Julie’s ear and she wasn’t hearing Paulsen, or perhaps nerves set in and she lost track momentarily?

Hey folks, it is not as easy as the good ones make it look.

Paulsen: “I kind of alluded to it already.” He was probably caught off guard himself by her surprising question. Paulsen then continued,

“He is just a big physical, bruising kind of runner that can take some of those hits off of Gibson. You know, Gibson had the injury issue last year, had the fumbling issue. Robinson is a big man, he knows how to take care of the football. I love his physical running style.”

“He is not the best receiver out of the backfield. He did not have to do that a ton at Alabama. But I think it is a nice kind of short-yardage, goal-line piece this team missed last year.”
