The 2022 NFL draft is over. And free agency, for the most part, is over. As NFL teams are currently in the middle of OTAs, rosters are set for the most part. We will see surprise players make 53-man rosters, and teams will sign lesser free agents, but we have a better idea of what all 32 teams will look like in 2022.
With the bulk of rosters set, Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus released his latest power rankings. Monson broke down his power rankings by tiers. The tiers are true contenders, could be their year, eyes on the playoffs, stuck in limbo and rebuilding.
Where are the Washington Commanders?
Washington is ranked No. 23, “stuck in limbo.”
23. WASHINGTON COMMANDERS
Hitching your wagon to a player that is being thrown out of his previous employer’s building after just one year as the answer at quarterback is a risky strategy, but that was Washington’s answer to a disappointing season in 2021. Carson Wentz ranked 23rd in the NFL last season in overall PFF grade and was at his worst in the crunch period of the season with the playoffs on the line. Washington will be hoping he is enough of an upgrade over Taylor Heinicke that it can return to the playoffs, but that may just be optimism at this point.
As any fan knows, there is nothing worse than being stuck in limbo. Washington fans have been stuck in limbo for over 20 years. One year, you think the Commanders are rebuilding, and the following year you believe they are contenders. Or, at least that is what they want you to believe.
As of now, yes, Washington is stuck in limbo. However, Wentz has an opportunity to lead the Commanders to the playoffs and out of limbo.
