Which Commanders’ players has the most to prove?

The Trap or Dive podcast gives their predictions for the Commanders 2024 season

With week one officially here, the Trap or Dive podcast ran through several season predictions for the Washington Commanders 2024 season. Which players have the most to prove? Several do, for various reasons.

Safety Jeremy Chinn, wide receiver Dyami Brown, and cornerback Benjamin St-Juste are on one-year deals or the last year of their rookie contracts. Each player hopes to raise their stock value from an impact standpoint. Sam Cosmi, while he has proven value for Washington, is looking to cash out on a contract that reflects his importance as a top-tier starting guard.

Outside of players in their last year, IDL Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne and cornerback Emmanuel Forbes also have plenty to prove this season. No “star power” caliber player is on the edge for Allen and Payne anymore; it’s just those two. While each of them had individual success, they have somehow avoided dominating in the same season, let alone having consecutively consistent seasons. The defense has not had an identity in a very long time, and this is an excellent opportunity to solidify just how good Washington’s top two paid defensive players are. While Forbes is not anywhere as good as Payne and Allen at his respective position, his 2023 season was so underwhelming that he is in the hot seat as a potential cut candidate in the near future.

A couple of rookies to consider, especially with Washington releasing a new unofficial depth chart, are wide receiver Luke McCaffrey and left tackle Brandon Coleman. Both rookies are expected to see significant playing time, and Coleman, barring injury, will see 100 percent of the offensive snaps. Washington is banking on Coleman to show he can become a cornerstone of the Commanders’ offensive line.

Do you agree with some of the names? Who else would you say has the most to prove?
