Wildcats Claw Tigers at Home. Senior Day up Next

November 18, 2023 by Maryland Sports Blog

Towson hit the road to face off against the Villanova Wildcats. They ended up hitting a brick wall. The Cats shutout the Tigers in the first half and only allowed 10 in the 2nd to win 33-10. Towson found themselves down at one point 24-0. The offense was flat, the defense was able to get the ball back, but the offense couldn’t do much with it.

Nathan Kent was held to a mere 53 yards passing on the day. He did not throw a touchdown or an INT. 10 completions on the day for him out of 21.

Christopher Watkins scored the only touchdown for the Tigers as he ran for 90 yards on 6 touches. The passing game was held in check all day and couldn’t make the big plays. Carter Runyon led the way with 34 yards on 4 catches.

Connor Watkins had a big day for the Wildcats as he finished the day with 299 yards and 15 completions and 3 touchdowns. He did throw an interception early on in the game that set Towson up with good field position.

TD Ayo-Durojaiye scored the lone rushing touchdown for the Wildcats. Jalen Jackson led the charge with 87 yards on 14 carries. Rayjoun Pringle was a problem all day for Towson and finished the day with 180 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns on just 5 catches. Jaylan Sanchez also found the endzone.

Defensively for Towson, Daniel Raymond led the team in tackles with 12 and 2.5 tackles for loss. Dion Crews-Harris had 2 sacks on the day. Evan Rutkowski forced a fumble and recovered it. Dorian Davis had an interception early in the game to set up the offense deep in Wildcat territory.

The Wildcats defense held the Tigers to just 227 yards of total offense. They did not force any turnovers on the day. It was a true team effort for Villanova to get the win. Shane Hartzell led the team in tackles and Jake Reichwein had a sack.

The Tigers wrap up their 2023 season with 1 final game at Unitas Stadium. Senior day presents the last opportunity for these Seniors to play in front of their home fans. Hopefully it will also be their first home win of the season.

Standing in their way of this goal is the Rams of the University of Rhode Island. An up and down year for the Rams has them 2 games over .500 at 6-4. They’ve won back to back games over New Hampshire and North Carolina A&T. They have struggle a bit on the road so this could mean good things for the Tigers.

The man leading the offense is a man that I know from his days at Maryland. Redshirt Senior and Maryland/Tennessee transfer Kasim Hill will be under center for the Rams. He is a native of Washington DC. He played most of his high school career at Gilman before transferring to St John’s in DC.

He’s in the middle of having a huge year for the Rams. He’s thrown for 2715 yards and 17 touchdowns. He does have 9 INT’s as well on the year. He will look to have a big day in the passing game, but he can also run the ball and has 3 touchdowns on the year.

Ja’Den McKenzie is another guy having a huge year in the run game. He has 712 yards rushing and a whopping 11 touchdowns. The Rams have a lot of guys in the passing game that will look to stretch the defense all game long. Their main threat is Kahtero Summers who has 864 yards receiving and 6 touchdowns. They also have guys like Marquis Buchanan, Darius Sevedge, and John Erby who have all found the endzone on more than 1 occasion.

Defensively, they are another well rounded and stout unit. They have really been playing well as of late. Evan Stewart leads the team with 76 total tackles on the year. AJ Pena has 8 sacks on the year and will look to put pressure on Nathan Kent. Jordan Colbert and Syeed Gibbs will look to crest take aways in to give the offense extra possession.

Thank you to all the seniors for your contributions on this season! Good luck in your future endeavors. GO TIGERS! Kickoff from Unitas Stadium is set for 1pm.
