Will Commanders star WR Terry McLaurin be a fantasy football value in 2024?

July 13, 2024 by Redskins Wire

If you play fantasy football these days, you understand the process of drafting wide receivers early. In the old days of fantasy football, it was to snag as many RB1s as you could find and add other positions later.

The game has changed over the years, with the passing game much more prevalent now than it was 15 years ago. Fantasy football has evolved, too, with PPR (points per reception) being more common in fantasy leagues.

So, if you miss out on a Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, or Tyreek Hill early, you’re looking for value.

Washington Commanders star Terry McLaurin could be a supreme value in 2024.

The sixth-year wideout has gone over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last four seasons and only missed it by 81 yards as a rookie in 2019. He’s done it catching passes from 11 different quarterbacks. Now, McLaurin has Jayden Daniels — the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report recently named every NFL team’s biggest fantasy value in 2024, with McLaurin being his pick from the Commanders.

The 2023 season wasn’t kind to the wide receivers in the nation’s capital—McLaurin is currently being drafted in the exact same slot he finished last year in PPR points. But if you believe at all in rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, then all the pass-catchers for the Commanders should benefit—McLaurin most assuredly included.

For context, McLaurin has an ADP (average draft position) of WR32 — meaning he’s the 32nd-ranked wide receiver, per Fantasy Pros.

That’s ridiculous when you think of McLaurin’s production and that he’s a true No. 1. We don’t know how good Daniels will be as a rookie, but the upside is much higher than any of the previous 11 quarterbacks McLaurin has played with in his career.

If you can draft a No. 1 wide receiver in the seventh round or later, that’s a no-brainer from a fantasy football perspective.
