BALTIMORE—Tony Mansolino doesn’t know what he’ll be doing in 2026. He’s been the interim manager of the Orioles since May 17th, and the team is 59-55 since he took over from Brandon Hyde.
Mansolino, 42, said he knows when a decision will be shared with him on his future but isn’t going to share it.
“I’m very thankful for this organization for pulling me out of Cleveland and giving me a big league job,” Mansolino said.
He’s been with the Orioles since 2021, and was the third base and infield coach until he was promoted.
“I’m very thankful now at this point to be in this position, to be seen as a guy that can do this,” Mansolino said. “I’m going to do the right thing. I’m going to tell them what I think. I hope they appreciate that. It might not be what they want to hear.
“If you’re a major league person … if you’re a true big leaguer in what you do, the truth is what sets you forward. It is my responsibility to tell the truth. I will.
“There’s a right way to do it. You don’t need to beat people over the head with it. Maybe a little empathy goes a long way with it. I will do that to the best of my ability regardless of whether I’m going to be in this uniform, at home or in a different uniform.”
Notes: Jackson Holliday is not in the lineup for Wednesday night’s game because Mansolino says he has a banged-up knee. … Right-hander Chayce McDermott whose season is over because he was placed on the 15-day injured list with back discomfort felt the issue when he was home after he was placed on the Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List. According to Mansolino, he threw when he returned and the back still hurt.
