If they can mess up Sean Taylor’s jersey retirement this bad, what the hell is the new name going to be?
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) October 15, 2021
Gabe Taylor, who wears No. 26 at Rice to honor his brother’s playing days, on his next 2 days:
“I play. The game ends. I’ll go with my parents, we drive to Austin. If I’m not mistaken I’ll fly to Washington the same day or I’ll wait till Sunday AM and fly. But I will be there.”
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) October 15, 2021
This is Sean Taylor’s brother.
I haven’t heard from any alum saying they were definitely aware of a broad Sean Taylor ceremony more than a 2-3 weeks ago and nothing definitive on the retirement aspect at all.
But this is his family saying this. https://t.co/xK2AqXlSGx
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) October 15, 2021
Sean Taylor is the ONLY thing that this franchise/fan base has had in the last 25 yrs that is 100% undisputedly better than any other team had the NFL.. -And now he is just going to be honored randomly in front of mostly Chiefs fans… -This is not the right way to do this.

Unfair that Rivera has to answer this question and not Wright.
But “you can’t change anything” rings hollow. Dedicate the street Sunday. Retire the number next year.
Do it right. https://t.co/P8ytVnKmgy

— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) October 16, 2021
Ron Rivera was asked 20 questions today and 9 of them weren’t about football. Those topics ranged from poor attendance to emails to the DEA and Sean Taylor’s jersey retirement.
Kudos to Ron for answering everything and doing it well, but that’s not ideal with KC coming to town.— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) October 15, 2021
I really hope despite the chaos of this week that Sunday turns out to be a memorable/positive experience for Sean’s family. #WashingtonFootball

Rivera said moving on from the past has “been a challenge.” He said he knew it was part of the deal and knew what he was getting into… But says with the info that comes out “it makes the challenge a little bit bigger.”
— John Keim (@john_keim) October 15, 2021
Simple question for Washington fans – do you believe the team had planned for months a surprise jersey retirement for Sean Taylor that would not have Joe Gibbs present and only had 10k memorable towels?

— Paul Williams (@FiftyGutBlog) October 15, 2021
(1/3) FWIW, this is what I was told about the Sean Taylor jersey retirement situation:
-Plans were finalized about 2 months ago
-Alumni were contacted around that time
-There was concern it would leak out earlier. Mistake in hindsight. Would’ve been great if fans knew earlier.— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) October 15, 2021
(3/3)
-Team prez Jason Wright left a meeting early to address the reaction.
-As he wrote in his apology, they realize now it should’ve been announced long ago so fans could make plans. They screwed that up.
-It was important to the Taylor family to keep it scheduled for Sunday.— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) October 15, 2021
They wanted to keep it a surprise. Why they thought a surprise would be better than announcing early is mind-boggling, but ♀️

Game status:
OUT
WR Curtis Samuel
LB Jared Norris
OT Sam Cosmi
OG Brandon Scherff
WR Cam SimsQuestionable
WR Terry McLaurin (hamstring)
TE Sammis Reyes (back)
WR Dyami Brown (knee)— John Keim (@john_keim) October 15, 2021
One addition to the game status report:
RB Antonio Gibson (shin) is questionable— John Keim (@john_keim) October 15, 2021
Curtis Samuel’s groin was an issue long before he signed with Washington.
Teams knew of the potential extent and offered less, but his prior relationship with Ron in Carolina presented his clearest avenue to market value.
He’s been a massive disappointment.
— Ryan Fowler (@FowlerRyan1) October 15, 2021
I get that this is not exactly the biggest thing happening for #WashingtonFootball right now, but Brandon Scherff being out again will mark his 18th missed game out of 54 #WFT regular-season games since the start of the 2018 season. That’s 1/3 of the games that he has missed.
— Al Galdi (@AlGaldi) October 15, 2021
Rivera said if they were truly concerned about McLaurin’s hamstring, they probably wouldn’t have had him on the side field at all today. Good news. He said it was an “abundance of caution.”

Losing sucks. I get it. But almost everyone predicted #Eagles to lose, so not sure I understand the outrage.
Of course they need to run more, but would 8-10 more carries have won the game?
Would the tone be different today had they lost w/a more balanced offense?
Just asking.

The revelations in recent days about what Jeff Pash, Bruce Allen and others have said in private are both disrespectful and unacceptable in our sport, business and society and I have relayed my thoughts directly to the Commissioner with respect to this latest email release.
— DeMaurice Smith (@demauricesmith) October 16, 2021
Our players deserve a full accounting of any other NFL misconduct, which is why we once again call for the league to release all of the emails from the Washington investigation. Any evidence or knowledge that this has been suppressed must be brought to light.

Lot of protecting going on by the @NFL & @nflcommish under the guise of protecting those who came forward. No need. They have wanted public accountability. The only people we’re protecting are those with a lot of $$ & influence. https://t.co/CY4F7hc0rD

I always find it fascinating that in the NFL, the compensation of players is well known and it’s not so for the coaches, while in college football it’s the opposite. https://t.co/vsspkeQl6h
