A lot of names have been floated as the USC Trojans begin their head coaching search. But there’s one name no one is talking about (for fairly obvious reasons) that Danny Kanell believes could be a candidate.
On Wednesday, the CBS Sports analyst suggested that the USC Trojans reunite with their former head coach and current Ole Miss head coach, Lane Kiffin. Kanell reasoned that if Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck could get back together, there’s no reason USC and Kiffin can’t mend the fences too.
It’s been nearly a decade is Kiffin was employed by the Trojans, but he did go 28-15 before his 2013 firing. He went 18-7 in his first two seasons, navigating the Trojans out of a period of NCAA sanctions. In 2011, the Trojans finished ranked No. 6 in the AP polls after going 10-2.
If J Lo can reunite with Ben Affleck why can’t Lane Kiffin go back to USC??? #TrueLove #Gigli

Lane Kiffin was fired after starting the 2013 season with a 3-2 record. A combination of factors, including playcalling, contributed to his termination.
But Kiffin landed on his feet, joining Nick Saban’s coaching staff for three seasons and rebuilding his reputation. Kiffin’s success as Alabama’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for three years earned him the FAU job in 2017.
Kiffin spent three seasons at FAU, winning the Conference USA title twice while going 26-13. His performance there landed him the Ole Miss job in 2020, and culminating in a 5-5 season.
All of that said, it’s a pipe dream to think Kiffin will be back at USC next year.
