The worst, most consequential play of the NFL’s Week 1 game on Sunday goes to the Cleveland Browns’ punter, Jamie Gillan.
Cleveland has led Kansas City for the majority of Sunday afternoon’s contest. However, a major gaffe by the Browns’ punter has handed the game back to the Chiefs.
The Browns’ 27-year-old punter dropped a snap and, instead of attempting to punt the ball, ran with it before getting tackled.
Kansas City’s return team stopped him easily, giving the ball back to their offense. The Chiefs’ offense didn’t hesitate to score a touchdown, taking the lead.

Even LeBron James is upset.
“MAN WHAT!!!!!!! Kick the ball still man. Took off like he Tyreke Hill,” the Northeast Ohio native tweeted on Sunday night.

It’s not a good time to be the Browns’ punter, that is for sure.

Kansas City now leads Cleveland, 33-29, with less than eight minutes to play in the fourth quarter. The rematch of the 2020 Divisional Round playoff game is airing on CBS.
It’s shaping up to be a big finish.
