Just over 48 hours ago, the USC Trojans shocked the college football world when the program announced Clay Helton will no longer be part of the team.
The timing of the move was suspect, even though Helton has been on thin ice seemingly during his entire time in charge of the Trojans program. A brutal loss to Stanford was the final blow for the USC brass.
Immediately after USC’s decision, college football analysts and fans started throwing out names as potential replacements for Helton. Of course, the conversation eventually turned to Urban Meyer.
Well, on Wednesday morning, Meyer gave a definitive answer to those suggesting he’ll leave the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s not heading back to the college game.
“There’s no chance. I’m here and committed to building an organization,” Meyer said.
Jaguars HC Urban Meyer asked about his interest in the vacant USC HC job: “There’s no chance. I’m here and committed to building an organization.”

Meyer has only coached one game at the NFL level and fans are already convinced he’ll leave to coach at USC. While the head coach made it clear he’s not leaving any time soon, fans have seen this movie before.
Former Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban bluntly said he wouldn’t be the head coach at Alabama. Just a few weeks later, Saban was introduced as the new head coach of the Crimson Tide.
Will Urban Meyer follow a similar route and leave the NFL for a great college coaching job? We’ll just have to wait to find out.
